JARED KUSHNER´S LUXURY PLANS IN ALBANIA

Together with journalist Maartje Bakker, we visited the coastline around Zvërnec and the Narta Lagoon before construction had begun. What stayed with us most was the feeling of wildness. The first time we arrived, there was nobody else there. Just the wind, the waves, sand dunes and an extraordinary sense of space. It felt like one of the last stretches of Mediterranean coast that had escaped large-scale development.
Since then, construction works have started and the projects have become the focus of growing protests. Thousands of people have joined demonstrations in Tirana and along the coast, while environmental groups, local residents and activists warn about the impact on protected ecosystems, land rights and transparency in the approval process. The Albanian government argues that the developments will bring investment and jobs.
